Sub Club was founded to provide a space for young people interested in film to come together and watch free movies they would otherwise not be exposed to. We define this as films that are too experimental, too sexy, too gory, or too "out there" for mainstream viewing. These films should be considered for inclusion in school curriculums or by other curating teams.

Our primary focus is on international films, especially from countries whose contributions to cinematic excellence are often underappreciated or underrepresented, as well as films made before the 2000s. We believe these categories are under-examined for our age group.

In practice, we think all films pitched should be international films unless it is a new work that we have unique access to screen or if the screening is accompanied by an in-person or Zoom guest. Of the films selected, we aim to provide 65% international works from any time period and 35% from other categories. For every American or English-language film, there should be two international films screened, and alternative programming events (like the Short Film night) do not count in this rule.

Above you can check out an archive of flyers for past events, our chatroom, or critical analysis of anything and everything true cinema.
